Default Split-screen pc gaming

I've noticed that when games get ported over from a console to a pc, they remove the split-screen 2 player mode and the only way to play multiplayer is to have 2 or more pc's. Does anyone know why this is? Do they think peoples' machines can't handle it? I'd love to be able to plug in 2 x360 controllers for some 2-player action in NFS:MW, GOW, etc...

It's called LAN play.

All PC games play on LAN (Local Area Network.)
It's like playing an internet game with the players only active on your network. Doesn't have to do with the computer's performance.
